James Randi is my hero

Mr. Randi is after “experts” who recommend dowsing rods as explosive device detectors.

The New York Times recently exposed another bunch of wackjobs in Iraq using the ADE-651, sold by ATSC (a British company) at $65,000 a whack. It is a device shown in tests to be completely worthless. ATSC’s web site is currently “under repair”; you can see a catalog of other dubious electronic devices here.

Wadda buncha maroons!

Deepak Chopra is at it again

Now he claims that the human brain could not possibly be a product of evolution:

It’s my personal conviction that the brain was created by consciousness. There is no other viable explanation, because our current explanation, that the human brain evolved through random mutations, simply doesn’t hold water. Our brains are the single most complex structures in the universe. To say that they were randomly created is a million times more unlikely than having ten monkeys sitting at typewriters produce all of “Shakespeare”.

He doesn’t even have the guts to make a claim for intelligent design or creationism–he’s been making noises like this is all a result of a “core consciousness”.

How dare this man even pretend he’s a student of science and medicine. He advocates eye washes made from saliva to prevent cataracts, and claims that suffering is an illusion.

Another gem of vague bullshit from this wackadoodle (from ABC News’ Nightline Face-Off series):

“Evolution means this:  that the good guys keep striving, they keep winning but never win.  And the bad guys keep losing but never lose.  That’s evolution.”

As if we need *another* reason to despise fundies of all colors

‘Ungodly’ women incite men to rape them.

This is according to a pamphlet, entitled “Women and Girls” and signed by “anonymous” (fucking coward), being handed out to women in Bristol, Virginia. One wackadoodle who gave a copy to a 19-year-old woman at a fast-food restaurant said,

“Even though nothing is showing, you’re being ungodly…you make men want to be sinful.”

By this logic, no matter how she behaves or appears, if a woman is raped, her lack of belief in the Great Invisible Sky Fairy caused the rapist to attack her.

If this isn’t a fine example of religious zealots transferring blame for rape to the victim, I’d be hard-pressed to find a better one.
