We all know what Smuckers means by “family friendly”

Johnny Weir, three-time national ice skating champion and twice an Olympic competitor, has been refused a spot in the upcoming Stars on Ice touring show.

Why? Because he’s not “family friendly“.

Let’s ignore the fact that he’s putting a brother through college, and supports his family because of his father’s disability. We all know what is being meant by “not family friendly” in this situation.

Anonymous sources are reporting that the sponsors, which include Smuckers (a Mennonite company) and IMG Entertainment, are “uncomfortable” with the notion of having someone who wears flashier-than-usual costumes and has a large LGBT fan base.

What a bunch of assholes.

It became necessary to destroy the prom to save it

UPDATE: The ACLU has now filed the lawsuit in light of the cancellation. I guess we have another case where filling in the municipal swimming pool to keep blacks out of it didn’t work.

Again.

~~~
Constance McMillan wanted to take her date to her high school prom. Her school district not only told her “no”, they canceled the entire prom as a result.
Constance is gay.
The school district is in Itawamba County, Mississippi.
A perfect storm.
The school policy requires prom dates to be of the opposite sex. The ACLU had given the district until yesterday to change the policy or face a lawsuit. Rather than face the lawsuit or allow a lesbian (gasp!) within their midst, the school district took the head-up-the-ass attitude that it became necessary to destroy the prom to save it.
Said one district official:
“It is our hope that private citizens will organize an event for the juniors and seniors.”
You can also safely bet that is exactly what will happen. It will be by invitation only, and we all know which two students will not be invited. (This happened at my senior prom as well in 1973; the local country club had a private party, and “undesirables”–blacks, long-haired types like me, and “trash”–didn’t get invited.)
Drop the school superintendent a nicely-worded, concise email or letter, or give her a call, and let her know that doing this will not make the situation go away.
…and now for something completely different!
…uh, sorry. I meant
