The American Academy of Pediatrics is advocating for female genital mutilation.
Yes, you read that correct. The AAP has issued a statement stating that they approve of inflicting “token” injury upon girls in order to placate those in America whose culture calls for shredding the clitoris of small girls by use of whatever sharp instrument is at hand (shard of glass, for example).
Words fail me.
I cannot believe that any reputable doctor anywhere in America would voluntarily take a scalpel and nick a young girl’s genitals to please the bloodthirsty, barbarian, mindless culture that demands that women have their sexual enjoyment lessened or removed.
This is one more example of groups allowing human rights to be eroded for their convenience or financial gain.

While I agree the thought of this is nauseating, it isn’t all that different from “routine” circumcision practiced by a much larger audience here in the states. The AMA has convinced uneducated parents that male genital mutilation is perfectly acceptable and even medically neccessary. The circ to non-circ ratio here in the US is still 30/70.
As far as I am concerned, a child grown into adulthood could make a choice as to whether participation in ceremonial changes is one thing, but really – Keep Your Damn Hands OFF the infants.
While I agree with the sentiment “Keep Your Damn (scalpels) OFF the infants (genitalia),” I gotta beg to differ on the notion that male and female circumcision are equatable concepts. Female circumcision DESTROYS the tender bits. You’d have to decapitate the schlong to do that much damage, they’re really not too similar. Male circumcision is stupid, female circumcision is barbaric.
Gotta go with Nichole with that one. Male circumcision is painful, to be sure, but it doesn’t lessen sensation and certainly isn’t an action to subjugate men.
As I’ve said before in comments on other blogs, men should have the choice to circumcise or not, but women should never EVER be subject to FGM. For any reason.
