“I have no intention of leaving the closet. I’m comfortable, the air is fresh.”

You remember Kristin Hansen, the teabagger state legislator from Montana that tried mightily to rescind its laws that allow municipalities to protect their LGBT residents from discrimination?

It looks like she’s a closet case that has lived with her partner for some years, and was open about the relationship to her close friends.

How can a mature gay adult truly contain enough self-loathing to have a relationship on the one hand, and try to strike down laws designed to protect her, her partner, and other gay folk from discrimination on the other?

What sane person could do that?

I’ve never been able to find a record of blacks or other minorities initiating Jim Crow legislation (which is not to say that it doesn’t exist, but they must be pretty rare).

Why do we keep finding gays that try to do the equivalent?

You could just as easily ask yourself why any sane White ever sided with the abolitionists, even up to the point of causing a civil war. It certainly wasn’t in their best interests.

Sometimes “sanity” has to give way to morality or other higher purposes.

In this case it may have just been a case of not wanting municipalities to expand upon State Laws.
