Do we need any *more* reasons not to vote Republican?

A bunch of those pandering, self-contradictory political whores running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination are slithering to even lower levels of the slimy political substrata.

There is a debate among five of them in Greenville SC tonight. Here are the attendees:

  • Rick Santorum
  • Herman Cain
  • Tim Pawlenty
  • Ron Paul
  • Gary Johnson

There are some prominent names missing from the list, but let that pass for the moment; the missing ones may be showing more common sense than normal, because…

…the guest list isn’t the kicker. Take a look at some of the sponsors:

A bunch of crazier, more outstandingly ignorant pinheads you’ll rarely see together in one spot. And shame on the South Carolina Republican Party for allowing these hate- and fear-mongers to participate in what should have been an event about facts instead of being about religious hysteria,  homophobia, and out-and-out lies.

Associate Press and Reuters are not attending the debate, which seems unusual until you read AP’s stated reasons for not showing:

This is to inform you that The Associated Press is not planning to cover Thursday night’s Republican presidential candidate debate in South Carolina because of restrictions placed on media access. The debate sponsors, Fox News Channel and the South Carolina Republican Party, will only allow photos to be taken in the moments ahead of the debate and not during the event itself.

These are restrictions that violate basic demands of newsgathering and differ from other debates where more access was granted. Accordingly, the AP will not staff the event in any format nor will the AP disseminate any pool photos taken by another outlet. This is consistent with longstanding policy exercised in coverage of many events.

Should access conditions change, the AP will reassess this decision and expedite a new coverage advisory if warranted.

Gotta control that pesky media, you know. They might find out yet more inconvenient truths.

Respectfully, I must strongly disagree with you. The five you mentioned are the only ones that have met the necessary criteria to attend. Romney, Gingrich, Bachmann and others aren’t showing any more common sense at all. They just haven’t filed out all the paperwork yet.

Fair enough. They’re all masters (mistresses) of the political flip-flop, and Michele “Crazy Eyes” Bachmann wins the Mel Blanc Looney Toons Award for the last decade.
